Mastin - Almda Zachary Coffenberry

Mrs. Alma D. Mastin, 69, lifelong resident of the county, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Joe Rice, 506 E. College St., where she had lived for the past two years. She had been in failing health for several months. Mrs. Mastin was employed for several years at the Sommer Metal Craft Co. and later as matron for the Indiana Bell Telephone Co. She was born Nov. 27, 1895, at Ladoga, the daughter of Ephraim and Nancy Watson Zachary, but moved to Crawfordsville with her parents when she was a small child. She was married to Fred Coffenberry on Nov. 15, 1915. Her marriage to Lester M. Mastin took place April 19, 1925. He died on Aug. 18, 1958. Mrs. Mastin was a charter member of the Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a charter member of the Auxiliary of the Veterans of World War I, member of the Firemen’s Auxiliary and belonged to the Milligan Memorial Presbyterian Church. The survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Rice, with whom she lived; two sons, Eugene Coffenberry of Crawfordsville and Lewis Coffenberry of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Burchard Zachary of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Millikan and Mrs. Ethel Hudson, both of Crawfordsville; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, in addition to a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kenneth Voyles of Mulberry also was reared in her home. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a granddaughter, three brothers and a sister. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Bright Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday. Rev. O. K. Malone will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Eagles Auxiliary will conduct a ritualistic service at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. – jlr
